How to Make the Library Fun Again

Libraries are magical places, but for some kids, they can start to feel like a chore. With just a few creative tweaks, you can make the library fun again and reignite your child’s love for reading adventures.

Turn library visits into treasure hunts. Give your child a theme like “find a book with a dragon” or “find a book that rhymes.” Let them scan the shelves and discover books on their own terms.

Make a library bucket list. Include new genres to try, author names, or even events to attend. Many libraries host storytimes, craft days, or book bingo activities.

Pair the visit with a fun tradition. Maybe you stop for a snack afterward or let them pick a sticker for every five books checked out.

Book clubs for kids like Owl Post Books pair well with library trips. Your child will have a steady stream of curated books at home and the freedom to explore new stories on their own at the library.

Child on stairs, arms out, in avocado pajamas, holding "Millions of Maxes" book. Nearby are cards, a gnome, and red heart glasses. Playful mood.
